National Track Championships 2014
Arcane Cycling Team Win Six Medals at Elite National Track Championships:
Arcane Track team sponsored by Kildare Towns ‘Bicycle Design Centre’ competed in the Elite National Track Championships at Sundrive Velodrome on Saturday and Sunday (Aug 30 / 31),
The team performed well , with all five riders winning a National Medal.
Róisín Kennedy took a Bronze in the Individual Pursuit, and Darragh Zaidan followed this up with a Bronze in the Mens Individual Pursuit.
Zaidan’s qualifying Time saw him narrowly miss out on the Gold / Silver final, and he faced his own Team mate Simon Ryan in the battle for the Bronze.
Philip Ryan repeated his Sprint Bronze of last year, winning the Bronze two – nil against Sundrive Track Team’s Hugo Brennan./
Day two started with the Keirin Semi Finals where ACT Veteran Brendan Whelan joined the riders in the only Elite event open to Veterans.
Adamstown had qualified four Riders (From 12) for the Semi finals, and Whelan comfortably qualified for the Final in Heat 1 , he was joined by U/23 riders Simon & Philip Ryan after a tense Heat 2, where Darragh Zaidan narrowly missed out on a Final Spot.
Whelan showed the younger riders that he still had plenty of speed left by taking an Elite Bronze Medal in the final with Simon Ryan 4th . The Veteran Track championships will be held on September 13th
Simon Ryan was now the only team member without a Medal, with two 4th places. Ryan lined up for the Kilo, the young rider was seeded third for the event, and he didn’t disappoint – taking a Silver Medal behind UCI International Track Star Eoin Mullen.
The Championships closed with the Elite Mens Scratch Race. ACT placed two riders in the winning Break , with Darragh Zaidan taking Bronze in the Sprint finish , and Simon Ryan close behind.
